China Unicom, Alibaba to Build Mobile E-commerce Platform
BEIJING, Feb 24, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) yesterday inked agreement with Alibaba Group on strategic cooperation, according to which both sides will deepen cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, Internet and value-added service based on the WCDMA technology.
It is the first time for domestic communications high-tech companies to kick off cooperation with mobile e-commerce service providers, indicating that China Unicom takes another step further in the Internet market. Chang Xiaobing, board chairman of the company, says their cooperation will be carried out in the fields like could computing, e-commerce, mobile payment, terminal distribution and sales network.
China Unicom and Alibaba plan to jointly build commodity trading and life service platforms based on mobile Internet technologies through the improvement of informatization applications for e-commerce and mobile Internet market. Alibaba Board Chairman and CEO Jack Ma points out that they will share resources in network, application platform and customer service.
