IP-based TV soon a reality.(Internet Protocol-based TV)(Brief article)

Internet Protocol-based TV is a technology wherein TV content is delivered via broadband connection. A user can have various choices of anytime access to TV content, like watching the 8 p.m. news at 11 p.m. and watching favorite movies, among others. Telecom operators see IPTV as the new big thing. According to a research carried out by ABI Research, by 2010, the total IPTV subscribers worldwide will be over 120 million, with 47 percent being Asia Pacific's share. Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited are expected to launch IPTV first, leveraging their existing last-mile facility and a huge base of landline users. Bharti Tele-Ventures is conducting IPTV trials and is expected to launch it commercially in six months' time. Alcatel is also in talks with prominent operators for supply of equipment.
