Fed: Timber exports, domestic consumption down: ABARE

The nation's agricultural forecaster says exports of Australian forest products climbed
four per cent on the back of the low dollar in the December quarter.

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) report found forest
product exports hit $450 million for the quarter.

Woodchip exports hit an all-time high of 1.3 million dry tonnes, worth $192 million,
accounting for almost half of the total value of forest product exports.

The value of imported forest products dropped three per cent to $1.05 billion, leaving
a trade deficit on timber products of almost $555 million.
