NSW: Sydney investigation seizes 330kg of abalone

SYDNEY, April 14 AAP - Illegal abalone worth more than $40,000 has been seized in Sydney
by New South Wales Fisheries it was revealed today.

Fisheries Minister Eddie Obeid today said 330 kilograms of the quick frozen abalone
meat, the equivalent to about one tonne of live weight abalone in the shell, was seized
in the Sydney suburb of Riverstone.

A 36-year-old Hurstville man has been summonsed to appear in a local court in relation
to yesterday's seizure.

Mr Obeid said abalone was a protected fishery with strict quotas applying to commercial
operators.

"Recreational fishers collecting abalone should remember the daily bag and possession
limit is ten per person and the legal length is 11.5 centimetres," Mr Obeid said in a
statement.
